MGM Grand Launches Roaring New Website!

MGM Grand Website

The standard bearer for 'bitchin' Las Vegas casino websites, Tha' MGM Grand, has launched a new one which roars like the coug that it is!

No, thats not a figure of speech. The website actually roars.... as in "RAWR" roar as in start "Dark Side of the Moon" at the end of the third ROAAAAR roar, roar.

Much like the Hard Rock's brand new website, the new MGM Grand site does away with the trip hop and spa jams altogether (YAY!) but instead has the occasional sound effect of a growl.

The hotel pages feature tons of photos and a video tour of SkyLofts hosted by Denise Pernula, whose personal website says she is "Las Vegas' Most Watched Internet Television Host" and "hand-picked as one of Vegas' Most Beautiful People." Quack quack.

Another interesting feature is the inclusion of "location specific" social media links on different pages. On the Craftsteak page, they pimp out @craftsteaklv 's Twitter account instead of just the catch all @mgmgrand account.

All in all the site offers a nice hi-resolution peek into MGM Grand's offerings... nice job!

That's not to say that I don't have any complaints, as I certainly do. The subnav features this weird sliding navigation that is incredibly cute, but definitely overkill. The forced vertical scrolling on the detail pages only gets more and more jarring as you open and dismiss the "gallery views." The use of vintage stock photography is defeats some of the purpose of launching a new website. To nit pick: a blackjack table is not a poker table, the font in the reservation module drop down is at the threshold of readability and finally.... why do we have to submit the reservation form twice to reserve a room?

Check it out here: MGMGrand.com

Thanx to Mac for the tip.

Comments & Discussion:

It's a big improvement, but some of MGM Grand customers may find the site a little cumbersome to navigate. Two observations: MGM tries to maintain its image by keeping the tighty whiteys pillow fight to introduce the Rooms segment. Also, the rooms and suites have had some minor refreshing which was needed, but I still see some Naugahyde chairs lurking in the background. Ugh.

I can't see it on my iPad. Durrrrrr...

I'm not loving the new navigation, while the other site had issues, this one feels a little sloppy at times. For example under fine dining options, it lists 6 restaurants and then 2 more under 'more fine dining' at least before there was the option to see all of them on one navigation spot and choose from there. I guess I felt it was sloppy is because instead of a sliding menu (which it actually does in the animation) you have to click the more fine dining option, just seems tacky.
