Boardwalk Empire
Just when we were getting ready to give HBO the old heave ho, they went and released the trailer for Boardwalk Empire. "Was ist das?" asks my inner German nanny. Das, as it turns out, is the moonchild of Soprano's producer/writer Terrence Winter, Martin Scorsese and "Marky" Mark Walberg.
To ensure added success, Scorsese directed the pilot, with rumors of him taking the helm on a couple more. Toss in some Steve Buscemi, gorgeous photography and art direction and you got this old girl wishing for fall to get here sooner rather than later.
Based on the book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, the series will follow Nucky Johnson at the height of the prohibition in depression-era Atlantic City. Nucky, a mobster who also has a foot in the political arena is played by Stevie B, last seen eating lead in the Sopranos. We will also get to see Dabney Coleman, who hopefully will earn enough dosh for him to get off doing those Rent-a-Center voice overs, and Gretchen Mol, who is finally getting a decent role after being declared Hollywood's next 'It Girl' close to two decades ago.
