Any good actor has a few monologues tucked up his sleeve for a sudden audition or unexpected meeting with a director, and I'm no different. I've got the requisite dramatic Shakespeare piece, the funny & offbeat Eric Bogosian monologue, and of course, the eclectic Hunter S. Thompson selection -- for those rare moments when something extra special is required. He was one of my heroes, one of my idols, one of my inspirations... his indomitable spirit, intelligence, and vibrant charisma stand as a testament to the true potential of the human experience. I only hope to be able to say I imbue my own work as an actor and gambler with even half the uniqueness he did. Rest in Peace, you bizarre & beautiful fucker you...

"Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been 5 years? 6? It seems like a lifetime. The kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the midde 60's was a very special time and place to be a part of. But no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories, can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time in the world, whatever it meant.

There was madness in any direction, at any hour, you could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. And that, i think, was the handle. That sense of inevitable victory over the foces of old and evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.

So now, less than 5 years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West -- and with the right kind of eyes, you can almost see the high water mark; that place where the wave finally broke... and rolled back."

- from 'Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas' by Hunter S. Thompson
