Viva Elvis Preview YouTubed

USA Today has posted a video preview of the Viva Elvis Cirque du Soleil show coming to ARIA shortly after opening. It contains interviews with a number of people responsible for creating the show.

It looks like blue suede shoes are a main theme here. In addition to the obvious soundtrack choice and the gigantic blue suede shoe onstage, the dancers prance around wearing blue suede shoes on their hands. The whole think kinda looks like a 1959 drama class production (Grease 2?) let's hope it doesn't suck, for the Elvis fan in all of us.

Set designer Mark Fisher had a notable quote:

I feel I have a kind of good understanding what Elvis would've done if he had decided to create a show in Las Vegas.

Uh. Hey Fisher (knock knock knock) are you serious? Hellllo? Hellllllllloooo?

Thanks to Mac78130 for the tip!

Comments & Discussion:

Mark Fisher doesn't have a clue. Hasn't he ever heard of the sold out performances at the Las Vegas Hilton?
Does The Hilton still have the statue of Elvis near the main entrance?

A giant blue suede shoe? Are they serious. This is another Believe fiasco and they know it. They have already delayed the opening.

One problem is Elvis (despite the movies) never had any iconic imagery to go with his music other than the man himself. Whereas, the Beatles had Sgt Peppar's, Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, etc... They should hire a series of Elvis performers representing the stages in his career and have them sing live with projected background footage.

Elvis must be pretty f-cking angry in heaven, that show looks awful, and I sure he never would have had that group of people dancing on his stage with shoes on their hands.

Just like when I suffered through BeLIEve a week after it opened I am going to Viva Elvis on the 25th

As a longtime Elvis freak, I would have to say that if this show is a total bomb, I would not be surprised. This is a person who was probably the worst managed, mishandled, and misrepresented talent that has ever lived. Just the fact that he is still popular after his films in the 60's and frequent and repetitive compilation releases shows the strength of his artistic genius.

Elvis is VERY Vegas, but (unlike, The Beatles) he doesn't seem like a good fit for the Cirque show.
I think a Beach Boys theme show would work, if they are looking for a pop act theme.
