Meet The Tropicana's New Boss

As part of the ongoing regeneration of the long neglected Tropicana, current Planet Hollywood President (who jumped ship from his gig as Luxor's VP) Tom McCartney has been named President of Tropicana.

Normally, I'd leave news like this to the gaming biz pundits to chew on, but this interview with McCartney in the Las Vegas Sun really perked my ears, particularly McCartney's assessment of CityCenter:

[CityCenter] is not an imitation or duplication of anything here or anywhere else. It is a one-of-a-kind experience. That goes for the architecture and style of service and experience you see inside the space. I think, for the uninitiated, itís going to be an acquired taste, only because it is so different from what they have seen, but that difference begs the reason to see it and experience it and see how the city is evolving. And that is a good thing.

This is the most succinct and accurate assessment of the ARIA/CityCenter experience I've heard yet, and I've listened to a lot of them.

For the first time ever, I'm actually excited to see what might happen at the Tomicana, TomMcCana TropiMcCana Tropicana!

Comments & Discussion:

He's a cool guy--I got to work with him a little back in 2002/03 on the New York New York 9/11 memorial and he struck me as someone who was very good at what he did. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Trop.

I wonder if he is related to Paul McCartney? hahaha...

Hopefully he raises the ceiling levels in certain parts of the main floor. I am 6'3 and had some issues rubbing my head on the ceiling in a few parts of Tropicana (that long hallway with the little shopping kiosks comes to mind).
