Bellagio The Slot Whore

With all, most humble respect to the slot players that keep our beloved casinos afloat, it's hard to deny that a slot machine doesn't exactly scream elegance the way a baccarat or roulette table manned by a tuxedo-clad croupier does. And while, in general, there are little specifics on casino's websites about the games they offer, it's for this reason it seems they'll name every variety of table game on the floor before they admit they've got Jaws and Star Wars machines.

There is, of course, the one exception you're all probably thinking of. Yes, none other than the I-bet-$250-per-hand-and-still-can't-kick-it-with-quarter-players-in-a-Diamond-Lounge Harrah's. More than happy to attract the Bob Dancers over the Kerry Packers, the slot-finding, smile-you-just-won-a-jackpot-goddammit Harrah's properties let Jean Scott know she's wanted. Indeed, Harrah's is a slot whore - the ugly kind you'd find at Carnival Court after midnight.

But there's a new tramp in town and she's got all her teeth: Bellagio. Since when did all this slot hoopla start? Event calendars, tournament listings, host contacts, a virtual magazine, and even their own game finder? This looks, tastes, and smells like Harrah's marketing for a grind joint, not what we'd expect from MGM Mirage's top (for now, at least) property.

Here's hoping this kind of gaming detail finds its way to all nicer property's sites.

Comments & Discussion:

It's been around for about six months.

They evidently got a new slot director who has browsed around casino web sites a few times and knows what kind of player communication is possible.

It just seems a little unusual because Bellagio is a property not well known for player communication, period. Even when subscribed to the email spam lists, the average middle-class Joe rarely sees a come-on from them.

Those slot tournaments bring in A LOT of players and fills a lot of rooms at Bellagio. I'm not sure why. Speaking with knowledge of the occupancy rates on those days and foot-traffic, it's pretty crazy.
