Two New(ish) CityCenter Photos
Eagle eye VT tipster Mac78138 alerted us about two great photos posted to the website of CityCenter architect Daniel Libeskind.
The first of the two appears to be taken from the roof of the Crystal's shopping center where the CityCenter choochoo enters the station. Behind the pointy edge of the Crystals roof is Aria's casino, which radiates out in concentric circles from the porte cochere entrance in photo two.
Of interest here is the heat absorbing brick entrance around all the entrances, a lesson learned from Gehry's Disney Music Hall in L.A., whose brushed/polished metal surfaces reflected enough heat roast hot dogs (and concertgoers).
The typical maximum temperature peaked at about 140F (58 C). This is surprisingly close to the spring values, indicating that the radiant heat is the dominant factor and the air temperature is a secondary consideration, especially on ground surfaces. Again, such temperatures are not dangerous to people unless there is prolonged exposure. Stationary exposure to a direct focus (>10 minutes), however, would result in the equivalent of a bad sunburn.

Ten minutes = bad sunburn in L.A.'s mid/high 80s summer weather. Tack 30 degrees onto that base temperature (~30%) and you're looking at reflective heat levels of about 170-180 degrees - which would literally cook human beings exposed to it for more than minutes.
When Aria opens in December you might not notice this, but come next July when the temps are in the teens... thank the architects for not melting you while waiting for your whip at valet.

One other thing to mention... playing photoshop peekaboo into the lobby yields little result, but here's the magnification should your eyeballs prove sharper than mine.
