Unaware Light Group Drops Deuce
Pull this one out of the immature files, but read the fifth paragraph of City Center's latest press release. We'll wait.
The "Deuce" Lounge? Really? Don't they spend months carefully picking these names? Aren't potential names run by focus groups first? Don't they even know what a "deuce" is this day in age?
Modesty aside, I like to think I know a thing or two about this city and gambling, but when I hear the word "deuce," video poker isn't exactly the first thing that pops into my mind. And really, outside of pulling quad deuces on a Deuces Wild VP machine, is there any positive connotation with the word? Think about it...
40 Deuce, the old burlesque club at Mandalay? It smelled like ass in there. And now it's closed. The double-decker bus that runs the strip otherwise known as "The Deuce"? It's a pretty shitty experience, especially during rush hour.
We know the Light Group sure loves their single-word, sometimes all-caps names, but you wouldn't name a bar "Flush" even if it were near a poker room or a spa "Douche." "Deuce" just doesn't sound all that inviting.
I don't even want to think about their specialty drinks.

The best thing about "The Deuce"? It's right next to the bathroom. I'm not kidding.
Aside from the name, it sounds like this is a similar business arrangement to the Playboy Club at Palms. Light will provide the decor while the dealers will operate under Aria's gaming license. I also assume Aria will have a separate hi limit room. I'm not sure this will work without the cache of a Playboy-like branding.
