Follow Up: Monorail Closed Again

From KVBC 3 Las Vegas - Just four weeks after re-opening to the public, a power problem has once again brought the Las Vegas Monorail to a screeching halt. Since it's grand opening in July, the monorail has opened and closed several times because of mechanical problems. It's latest re-opening took place over New Year's weekend. News 3's Gerard Ramalho reports the monorail is closed to the public right now.

Plans to extend the monorail to downtown were recently cut short. The federal government refused to give 300 million dollars to help fund the project because of a low number of riders.

This is far from the first headache the troubled project has created for monorail operators. Since it opened last summer, it's been one thing after another. Back in July, the monorail was finally unveiled to the public hoping to give tourists and locals an easier way to get around the strip. But that all came to a screeching halt in early September, when a wheel assembly on one of the cars fell to the ground.
