Details Emerge on Mandarin Oriental's Room Offerings
City Center's Mandarin Oriental has finally released details on their various room offerings.
Don't expect anything extraordinary beyond what Aria, or really most competitors for that matter, are already offering. Standard rooms are actually a tad smaller than the now industry standard in Las Vegas, being trumped in size by the nearly 11-year-old Bellagio. TV in the bathroom mirror? Seen it in Flamingo's "Go" Rooms and MGM's West Wing.
But the rooms aren't completely void of a few unique features, either. The only suites I've ever stayed in with comparable stereo systems were the Skylofts and Wynn's Fairways - at least, it sounds like Mandarin's standard rooms will have more than re-branded Radio Shack hardware on the nightstand. The valet closet sounds neat as well, perfect for collecting a lifetime supply of toiletries when you're too embarrassed to ask the housekeeper in person. And Frette robes? Those puppies can run twice as much as the 42" Phillips LCDs hanging on the walls, each.
The question remains: will Mandarin price their hotel according to Las Vegas standards or the standards of their various other properties? If they play the same pricing game Four Seasons did, they'll be the highest-priced room in town until they quickly realize $2 per square foot doesn't cut it in this city.

Comments & Discussion:
With words like "Taipan" and "Emperor" looks like someone might be giving Imperial Palace a run for it's money. But the Mandarian Oriental will never have the funk, stank, and grubbiness that only IP can offer.
The whole City Center thing is going to suffer from the same problem described in the Encore Now Open post a few days back.
Try telling the folks back home in East Bumbleflip, Wherever, where you stayed when you went to Vegas:
You: "We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental."
The Dumb Guy You Work With: "Where?"
You: "It's part of City Center."
TDGYWW: "What?"
You: "MGM/Mirage owns it."
TDGYWW: "Ohhh, MGM's nice! We stayed there!"
