The Sky Is The Limit At M Resort
VT friend and fellow VegasGangster, Dr. Dave Schwartz (aka Dave702) has a phenomenal piece on his blog, wherein he reminds us of the easily forgotten obvious - sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
It's typical of Dr. Dave's awesomeness that I am unable to distill his assertions into bite sized form, so just go read his piece Volatility In Practice and Liz Benston's piece in the Las Vegas Sun.
Perhaps one of more interesting takeaways for the casual vegas tripper (one who probably isn't interested in the casino profit numbers) is that there is serious, serious, serious casino action happening at M Resort. Dr. Dave reverse engineers the numbers to reveal that a rather large, and very very very lucky gambler won approximately $2.3M on roulette at M. Further research shows that the other table games at the new resort are doing very brisk business as well.
If I was a high roller, I'd be playing at M Resort too. I've made the trip out there three times since it opened and was so blown away by the service and groovyness of M, that I'm willing to swallow their stupid resort fees and see what they've really got under the hood.

Comments & Discussion:
I stayed there last Thurs and was blown away by the service. They were killing me with kindness. The rooms were very nice and the architecture is great. Almost every bar had decent happy hour specials. It was moderately busy with locals.
A couple small issues: a) the video poker cooling fans blow heat onto your legs when seated at the bar, b) the main hotel entrance faces south and is somewhat roundabout to get to, c) the veloce bar is a portable on wheels and hence moves around if you lean on it, d) the high limit room is only open on weekends.
Also, forgot to add that I got a much better room rate ($55) on Vegas.com than the $80 rate on the M website. This suprised me given the trend of most resorts guaranteeing lowest available rates on their sites.
FWIW, the $25 resort fee was clearly disclosed to me in advance. Since I used both the internet and spa, it wasn't a big deal.
