Foundation Room Opens Its Doors to the Public

Last March, I walked into Foundation Room around 10pm on a member's only night thanks to a hook up from a THEhotel concierge friend. It was me and literally thirteen other people in there. No joke. Then again about two weeks ago, I expected to go on another member's only night at around 10:20pm only to be told that they were already closed.

Something had to give. Ten years ago, people were making money and no spot in town could compete with Foundation Room's opulence and extraordinary views. While the tax-deductible, $2000 per year individual membership seemed like a hefty price to pay, it actually wasn't that bad for a local looking to woo clients in a nice, quiet atmosphere.

But nowadays, nightlife is in a whole 'nother league and Foundation's number one competition is no longer The Beach (ask Admiral H. about that place - he loved it). Even its views have been one-upped by its younger sister MIX at THEhotel.

And so, the inevitable: I got a call this morning from my concierge friend that Foundation Room is now open to the public seven nights a week. No private memberships, no hook ups, and no greasing the door guy any more. A quick search reveals that this policy quietly went into effect last week.

As has always been the case, Mondays will continue to be their nightclubby night where three different DJs occupy three different rooms. The question remains, with doors open to finally advertise the existence of the space, will the other nights be the same? From a personal standpoint, I hope not. I always went the extra mile to access the lounge on private nights so I could have a place to sit and enjoy a glass of scotch, a quiet conversation, and the incredible views. From what it sounds like in the Las Vegas Weekly article, though, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Comments & Discussion:

Saw it listed in the usual Nightclub ads loaded in the Weekly this weekend. Lul''ed at the thing that said "Complimentary Admission, Foundation Room" and thought back to Back In Da Day.

From the HoB concert listing ad this week:

Las Vegas' Hottest New DJs
Wednesdays At 10PM
Complimentary Admission

1/2 Off selected bottles | drink specials

So basically, no, it's not gonna be the same.
