You Ripped Off My Theme... But We Can Be Friends Now
An interesting Player's Club offer streamed into my inbox the other day. Stay at Mirage for $45 per night and get $25 freeplay, two free passes to Mandalay's Shark Reef, as well as 2-for-1 comped meals at Bayside Buffet.
It's a curious cross breeding. I've seen the hotel operation side of things (not a Player's Club offer) promote a room at Monte Carlo with freebies at New York-New York and vice versa. But that makes sense; they're two very different hotels within reasonable walking distance of one another.
What makes MGM Mirage think I'm going to use the resources at Mandalay when my home base is center strip at Mirage? Do they think I'm part of a select demographic that loves a South-Seas-Polynesia-meets-dark-woods-and-Dale-Chihuly theme?
In retrospect, the vast majority of my MGM Mirage play is at these two properties, which makes me curious: have any VT readers received their own cross promotion? Suite at Bellagio with $25 food credit at Dick's Last Resort? Complimentary night at Circus Circus with $100 food credit at Joel Robuchon (just imagine signing that meal to your room)?
On a side note, it's another one of those "hack your own" offers, too! Go ahead and change up the number next to the "t", one through four, in the offer's URL. While you're at it, see if you can create your own cross promotions with the property name abbreviations and report back!

Comments & Discussion:
Two days ago I received a MB offer to use the facilities at Mirage. Definitely a shot at cross-promoting. I agree it should have been thought out a bit more and seems somewhat random.
I did like the NY, Exc, Lux cross-promotions from a few months ago. Those three also have a similar demographic, so maybe the thinking is to cross-promote similar properties. Not the best idea in all cases IMO.
I generally think MGM should cross-promote and share info. Harrah's does a pretty good job with their offers. I get a matrix every month showing my rates at each Harrah's property and then throwing in a few select options at random.
