Bashing the Beer Bash

An outdoor beer festival featuring nearly 50 different selections and live music? Where do I sign up?

Last Sunday, I was able to catch the tale end of New York-New York's Beer Bash on the Bridge with high expectations. With my lucky red Moleskin in one hand and pen in the other, I was looking forward to bringing a feature to VT's loyal readers with full tasting notes and comments.

What I got instead was an outdoor frat party in 100-plus degree temps. Now, I'm not expecting a Bellagio experience out of New York-New York, but for $45 at the door (or even the 3-day, $95 weekend pass), you'd have to really, truly love your beer to make the event worth it. But my biggest gripe? The lack of fans and misters for an all-day, outdoor summer event in Vegas that's charging for admission. Inexcusable.

We walked in to modest crowds while the band Phoenix tore up the stage. Time and heat constraints kept us from enjoying more than three generous pours, my favorite of which being the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.

If you really love rock hits of the late 80s and early 90s (I do), can stomach several pints of beer in one day (I can't), and can withstand the summer temps for more than an hour (and honestly, who can?), then make sure you hit the Beer Bash next time New York-New York brings it around.

Otherwise, treat yourself to live music and four glasses of Chimay in an air-conditioned Petrossian for about the same price.

Disclosure: NYNY comped our tickets.

Comments & Discussion:

Very disappointed to hear that. I love beer and the classic rock stylings of Phoenix and was considering attending next year (assuming there is a next year) but I guess i will pass for now.

PS @NYNY, the best part of your casino used to be the big apple bar. People love live music while they gamble, the atmosphere was awesome!

Now you are making me glad, I decided just to stay inside at TI for the whole weekend when this was going on, except for a visit to meet up with some friends at Carnaval Court. It did sound like a nice idea, but misters have to be essential. It's a huge difference.

you could've poured cold Bud heavy on your face every couple of minutes?
