Carlos Santana, Bananas

Richard Abowitz, head chef at The Movable Buffet - 2008 Trippies winner for best blog, editors choice - has posted a short yet very very sweet interview with Carlos Santana, guitar legend and new headliner at the Hard Rock.

As expected, Carlos answers all of Richard's questions with words plucked from a sky filled with spirituality and LSD. We can only hope that Carlos will see his stand at the Hard Rock as an opportunity to do what we know he is full well capable of - using his artistry to connect listeners to the healing powers of truth and self expression, i.e. blowing our minds and playing the dots off of his fretboard.

In my perfect world, Santana would view his run at the Hard Rock not as a ticket-churning parade of hits, but a gigantic canvas upon which he can paint an era with moments and magic.

When faced with extended runs in one venue, artists in the vein similar to Santana - The Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead - used the larger scope to present a wider array of colors, often completing songs and segues a day or more later... keeping fans guessing, hoping and collecting every sight, sound and set list of the entire run.

Having Santana as its resident headliner is without a doubt the best thing the Hard Rock has done in the last 10 years. One can only hope that Santana - the musician - will seize the opportunity in a similar fashion and turn his Hard Rock run into one epic jam for the ages.

Comments & Discussion:

A friend of mine heard that Carlos was going to be at the Hard Rock and suddenly he wants to go back to Vegas so the news isnt bad for me. I will surely hit one of the shows when I head back and hope he hangs around there for a long time.
