Rio Presidential Suite Pools

Google Earth is the ultimate see-if-Steve-Wynn-has-been-swimming-laps-in-his-villa's-pool satellite imagery software. There's always something new to discover when looking at Vegas overhead in a resolution crisp enough that it should be illegal.

I mean seriously, who the hell knew Rio had swimming pools on the freakin' roof?!

Anyway, there's no finished Palazzo, Encore, or anything that has opened in the last two years. Until the images are updated, however, there is one neat new feature to hold over the Vegas fanatic - a timeline feature that's found among the buttons at the top of the software interface.

Some images date back as early as the 1950s, but I find comparing shots over the last few years most interesting. Zoom in on Wynncore and move the timeline back to 2002 for a taste of the Desert Inn - pristine golf course and all - before it was imploded. You can see its slow demise as Wynn Las Vegas began to take shape. Or you can check out Treasure Island when it was puke colored or Caesars Palace's slow transformation of a dirt plot into an Augustus Tower and Roman Plaza.

Here's a short flash slideshow of the surrounding Boardwalk, Bellagio and CityCenter area, at 5 seconds per frame... from 1950 until 2007.

Definitely worth a download or update if you haven't done so already.
