The Poor Man's Prix Fixe: Seasonal Tasting Menus at MGM Grand

I'm not crazy about MGM Grand - it's too big with an uninspiring casino and several thousand rooms that are due for a thorough refreshing. But for all its impersonal vastness, it's still got one thing going for it: Sigma Derby one of the best selections of restaurants in town.

From the mediocre Grand Buffet and always satisfying Studio Café to the Ateliers and Mansions of Joël Robuchon, MGM has every taste and budget covered offering eateries that, dare I say, are by far the most attractive public spaces in the building.

For the budget conscious who's still looking for a memorable dining experience, MGM is offering seasonal tasting menus (but take "seasonal" with a grain of salt - hardy har - because there's been very little variance in selection over the last several months). These prix fixe menus offer a number of choices featuring some of the restaurants' best selections at very reasonable prices.

I had the pleasure of enjoying Craftsteak's and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon's tasting menus last summer. Both were fantastic. Twist my arm enough and I might say L'Atelier was the most memorable meal in my Vegas repertoire - the Onglet de boeuf à l'échalote is the most delicious hunk of meat you'll ever come across outside of XS in July ;-).

So if you're looking for an exceptional dining experience at a reasonable price and the thought of running $10 through the Sigma Derby machine to milk drinks for four hours intrigues you, then there's no better reason to head down to MGM.

Comments & Discussion:

So you link to a promotion that's a month old, and expires in three days. Thanks a ton, that's the kind of timely, quality info I've come to expect from VT.

Seasonal means they change every season... no?

also notable at MGM Grand: the whisky bar @ craftsteak. if you like scotch, it's unbelievable.

Considering how the "seasons" are in Vegas, do they change the menu three times a year?

Sorry I wasn't clear enough. You can expect a summer tasting menu to be introduced in a few days that'll be hardly any different than the spring one.
