Note To Self: Don't Admin Pub Superbowl Pool

Forget that $1 a square Superbowl pool nonsense... three figures and up is where the real money is at. Oh, and jail time too.

Miguel Alvarez - co-owner of two pubs in the Elburn/St. Charles area of Illinois - operated a $600/square Superbowl pool out of his joints, with the winner taking home $60k. Of course, the cops busted him.

Since he owned the joints, he was charged with unsportsmanlike conduct, a 15 yard penalty Keeping a Gambling Place, a felony.

Mr. Alvarez is no stranger to the penalty box (sorry for the mixed sports metaphor.) He's been busted on gambling charges twice prior AND did a year in the pen on a Federal gambling charge. The judge sentenced Mr. Alvarez to second and long - at least two years of a four year sentence.

When released from prison, I sincerely hope Mr. Alvarez' friends throw him a surprise bucket of ice cold Gatorade.

Comments & Discussion:

you know, it would be different if the guy kept $10K for managing the pool, but it paid out 100%. It's good to see the gov't is wasting more money to take care of people who want to try their luck on a super bowl pool.
