If This Is What Happens After Getting Your Head Bashed In At Mandalay Bay, Where Do I Sign Up?
The new album by Atlanta's Mastodon entitled Crack The Skye was released today. The album was partly inspired by a trip through outer space space which guitarist Brent Hinds enjoyed after a fist fight outside of Mandalay Bay left him in a coma for three days in 2007.
I've listened to the disc about four times, and I've gotta say if this is what happens after getting your head bashed in at Mandalay Bay, where do I sign up?
Here's a video for the 'single' Divinations, a very short and pummeling tasting menu of what is in store should you attempt to swallow Crack The Skye in its entirety. The complete super mega deluxe version comes with a second disc consisting of "The Score" - the whole album mixed mixed without vocals.
I wholeheartedly recommend this disc for those looking to fill their iPods for the plane ride in... toss in one of those leftover vike tabs and you've got yourself an audio tour of the outskirts of Bongolia, without ever leaving your coach class seat. I'm not the only one who agrees - nearly all of the 110 ratings on iTunes give it five stars, wow. Comments & Discussion:
this is an incredible cd. the last song, 'the last baron' might be one of their best songs ever. best metal song ever, maybe.
i have a touch of a problem with some of the alice in chains vocal moments, but the complaints are few. a headphone album, but as far as intoxication while listening, from experience, i think some bourbon and a few punches to the head will be fine, any thing else might take you on a trip to a worse place than the imperial palace.
