Cal Neva Lodge, Lake Tahoe

Oh brother.

The not-so-great, yet extremely historic Cal-Neva has been foreclosed upon. The property is currently in 'receivership' which means that CalNeva's lenders have handed over operations of the joint to an operator appointed by the court.

It's a pretty smart move on behalf of the lenders (a group called Canpartners) to keep the joint up and running - and making money - instead of closing it and letting the timbers rot. As anyone who has been there in the last few years will tell you, it ain't in the best of shape. In fact it looks startlingly like it hasn't been upgraded or renovated since before Sinatra owned the joint, possibly not since it opened in 1928.

More here.

Comments & Discussion:

Yeah, I stayed here a few years ago - wanted to check it out, given all the history... The place is in really really bad shape. Sorta felt like Camp Crystal Lake with a rundown casino in it.
