Scale The Strat

On the outside chance that you happen to be in Vegas this weekend, are in excellent shape and enjoy inflicting physical punishment on yourself (i.e. exercise) the Stratosphere is hosting a charity vertical marathon event called Scale The Strat.

The premise is simple... get some of your friends to pledge money on your behalf, put on your jogging shoes and walk from the bottom of the Stratosphere tower to the top - 854 ft, 108 stories... for a total of 1,455 stairs.

Better hurry... registration closes tomorrow! The entry fee is $50 + at least $250 in pledges, all of which goes into Bob Stupak's pants to the American Lung Association.

More info here.

Comments & Discussion:

This is a popular event with big pointy buildings. The CN Tower hosts one, too. So at least Vegas is becoming a Real City in terms of managing it's supertall. Now if only they can get a Doors Open.

I didn't know the Strat had a staircase, though. Their "in case of emergency" stuff directs people to get into the bottom floor bunkers and pray the thing doesn't fall over before the crisis is done with.

Have you ever been to Washington DC? You stand in line to see the top of the Statue of Liberty...stand in line for hours only to find out you have to take STAIRS all the way to the crown at the top? Yeah that sucked. I bet this sucks worse.....

I find the sponsorage a bit ironic, considering that you can get emphysema just by walking through the Strat's casino area. A little bit smoky, that's all I'm sayin'.
