Birmingham's Star City Casino owner Stanley Leisure saw its share price plummet as it revealed profits would be hit after a winning streak from a major player and a string of favourites romped home in racing and football.

Stanley, which has 41 casinos, did not disclose how much the high-roller had won, but said it amounted to "material losses".

The news came as the group suffered further setbacks from unpaid debts at its casinos and the string of adverse sporting results at its chain of 600 bookmakers.

Stanley said a small number of casino gamblers had not settled their accounts and these debts might not be recovered fully before the end of its financial year in March.
