Frank 'Lefty' Rosenthal, one of the giants of mob-era Vegas has died.

To some Lefty is most famous for the film which chronicled his life, Casino, wherein he was plays by Robert DeNiro. But it's his many other contributions on the "business" end of things that will last forever. Rosenthal, a sports betting prodigy, virtually inventing the modern sports book while running the Stardust. He also signed Siegfried and Roy to their earliest contract in Vegas, fixed sporting events, surviving a harrowing car bombing in 1981 and eventual exclusion from ever stepping foot in a casino via the "Black Book."

Even after being banned from Las Vegas casinos, there were always rumors, that Lefty - sporting a disguise - had been spotted walking the floor of the Stardust up until a few years before it closed.
