Fitzgeralds Reno

Time to stick a fork in Reno, another casino is closing. The owners of Fitzgeralds Reno - located at the base of the famed Reno Arch on Virginia Street - is closing on November 30th make way for a boutique hotel.

From KTVN Reno:

L3 Development, the company that bought Fitzgeralds last year says it's time to bring in something new.

The company plans to convert the landmark into a boutique hotel, moving away from a gaming centric model. Instead the developers want to fill it up with restaurants and shops.

First the Flamingo/Golden Phoenix, and now Fitzgeralds. Is it safe to say that Reno as a casino destination is... uh... not?

Thanks to Sperman508 for the tip.

Comments & Discussion:

Reno has been losing market share to South Lake Tahoe for years now. The days of downtown Reno being a Casino center are long gone. I'm not sure, but I don't think any of the big players are still active in Reno.

How about Harrah's (Harrah's) and MGM Mirage (Circus Circus, 50% of Silver Legacy)?

ide love to check it out... especially the peppermill...

Grand Sierra Resort just got sold this afternoon to a JPMorgan bank unit. Wow.

I want to take a roadtrip out to Reno so bad....maybe it'll happen next year, maybe not...who knows
