Luxor Email Fine Print

I'm not exactly sure how long this:

This e-mail is intended for Chuck Monster account 8675309"

...has been part of the fine print boiler plate of Luxor's marketing emails.

I'll venture a guess that this personalization is meant to stem the tide of forwarding & reposting email offers all over the internets. The fishy afterstench of the promo code phishing debacle (a situation fully vented in the pages of VegasMessageBoard.com) has left big gold lion logo company wondering exactly how to keep their targeted email marketing targeted.

So what's a Lion Inc. to do? Cut the cord on targeted email marketing? Buy a book of stamps and do it the old fashioned way? Lock and block promo codes after their first use? Threaten customers by saying sharing deals with friends will result in demerits applied to your Players Club totals? Or let everything go and then redirect all offenders from the lux hotel they chose to an all expense paid 3 days/2 night vacation in the dungeon beneath Excalibur?

Would a simple "We've put together this offer just for you. Click here to send a special offer suggestion to a friend" deter you from forwarding offers around and instead opt for the automated suggest-to-a-friend thingy?

Comments & Discussion:

Not to ruin the fun of this post, but my "account specific" emails from MGM Mirage have had this boiler plate for over a year now. The ones that they send out which are the generic offers that you can find on their various websites don't have the "e-mail intended for" line, but instead have:

"Thank you for providing us with your e-mail address. We value your interest in our property.
If you prefer not to receive e-mail promotions, please click here to unsubscribe"

no fun ruined... i just hadn't noticed it before and was curious if other folks have, which you did. i did ping Luxor's Twitterer asking if that line was new and have yet to receive a response.
