Westward Ho Megadogs to Big Macs

It's been three long, lonely, reasonably gastric-safe years since the final MEGADOG was served at Westward, Ho!.

Until now.

The site of the former Westward Ho! casino (swapped by Harrah's to Boyd Gaming in exchange for Barbary Bill Hall's Gamblin' Coast and Saloon) stirs with construction anew - a brand new McDonalds, two doors down from the existing McDonalds it will replace.

Westward Ho, McDonalds swap out

Maybe I'm overreacting here... but any time the hallowed grounds of a casino (no matter how skanky) is "replaced" by a fast food joint... that's just plain wrong. Still, it's a pretty slick move by the Echelon folks to slide the McD's away from their multi-billion dollar project, and towards the dubious yet lotsa fun Slots O Fun.

Comments & Discussion:

It's actually a pretty good deal for Mickey D's, as Boyd's bought the land where the current one stands for $15.8 (or so) and sold to McDonald's the land that the new one will sit (The other location will remain open until the new one opens, so they don't even lose any business) for around $11.8 million. From the way it looks, the new site is actually slightly bigger, and the $4 million (or so) in profit for McDonald's probably paid for the new building and then some.
