Touch Screen Surface Computing Coming to iBar at Rio

CNET is reporting that six new table top computer gizmos, built using Microsoft's Surface platform will be unveiled at Rio Las Vegas' iBar next week.

These doohickeys are embedded into table tops and have a bunch of interesting applications running on them that allow tables to talk to each other via instant messaging (if you're too lazy to lean over and say hi), video cameras (if you're too lazy to turn your head) plus the ability to invent cocktails and have them sent to friends. Of course, we'd send them to unsuspecting patrons in the bar.

The Rio's owners Harrah's Entertainment - known for their penny pinching, by the numbers approach - sees the devices as improving "operational efficiency" ie. the bar can sell more booze, faster, with less waste... kinda like ordering a pizza on the internet.

The geek in me is interested, but don't we go to Vegas to get away from that stuff? Then again, I'd love it if someone super poked a gin and tonic to me because they appreciate the inner strength of someone who wears a jockstrap on the outside of their pants.

Comments & Discussion:

Of course it's all fun and games until the Blue Screen of Death.........

Gonna make sure to check that out in July.

And the jockstrap over the pants?? Is that to pay respect to Cameo?

@donnymac actually i had the 'panama' video in mind

I think Cameo was the first with the red codpiece but the VH tribute is good as well.
