Defying Oddsmakers, Van Halen Completes Reunion Tour

We've been tracking the Van Halen saga for a good two years now, starting with Eddie's bizarre appearance at Elton John's 2004 Academy Awards party, to Ed's Trip to Rehab, the announcement of the reunion with David Lee Roth, a mini-review of their show at the Staples Center and other developments.

Along the way, the stories posted have garnered numerous interesting comments, with a large percentage of them postulating that the tour would never start or implode somewhere in the middle.

Defying the soothsaying of y'all, the Van Halen tour has officially ended - not with an acrimonious split, but by playing all of the shows on the schedule (minus the few that were cancelled due to Ed's health scare a few months ago.) The tour hit Vegas twice this year, with a gig at MGM Grand Garden arena and the Mandalay Event Center, both of which received very glowing reviews.

To commemorate the occasion, the Van Halen folks have posted an end of tour photo gallery which features tons of high kicks, guitar histrionics, ear to ear grins and numerous great shots of Ed and Dave engaged in loving man hugs.

Congratulations VH on proving all of us wrong... NOW GO MAKE A KILLER ALBUM (with Dave)!!!!

...I like the way the line runs up the back of their stockings..

Comments & Discussion:

Dude, I knew I was getting old when I was in the Staples Center at a big arena rock show and nobody was under 35 years old. People politely shuffled through the halls of the arena sipping wine and specialty beer (not Bud Lite), saying "excuse me" if they accidentally bumped me. This was a far cry from my experience at arena shows in the 80's, with all the yelling and vomiting and big hair.
But what capped it was the heartwarming feeling I got seeing Eddie walk over to his son while ripping an awesome guitar solo and gently kissing him on the forehead. Aaawwww! Who am I?
