Las Vegas History

The web team at the Las Vegas Sun has whooped up another semi-masterpiece - an interactive timeline and mega history lesson on all things Vegas. Whether you're looking for some specific details about long lost Vegas stuff, or need to cop to your Vegas jones while you're boss isn't looking, the Las Vegas Sun's Vegas History mini-site is a great way to hose an afternoon.

Many thanks to RockVegas for poking me to share this with y'all.

Comments & Discussion:

It still needs work, no El Cortez when I tried to find it. I think that's just sacrilidge. Kinda like that "Love" ad that is blocking my comment box. HELP ME, CHUCK. DON'T TELL ME YOU'VE SOLD OUT TOO?!?!?!?!?!

@Jeff - El Cortez is on the map, or is there something else i'm missing here?

Sold out? Please. The Sun's web team is doing a great job, any quality effort on their part is better than the online disaster that is the Review Journal's site. They've essentially buried their most important content - THE NEWS - by allocating most of their homepage space to their quote - blogs - unquote. They've got more catchup to play than Heinz.

I couldn't get the screen to move to the El Cortez last Sunday when I was looking at it for the first time. Must have been operator error. The "sold out" comment was because a pop up ad for "Love" was blocking a third of this "Add Your Thoughts" box, making it hard for me to check what I was typing. I figured it was some type of computer glitch, but I couldn't keep myself from making some beer fueled, smart aleck comment.

Ok, i get it. There's a bug (i think it's IE only) where things with the "object" tag (flash and/or movie embeds - the love promo is flash) automatically display on highest z-index layer thereby blocking out stuff that should be above it (the commments thingy). if you close the comments thingy, and scroll the window until the love thing is hidden and the comments link is visible, you won't have that problem.

it's a browser bug - not us trying to cram cirque du soleil down your throats.

Uh, Chuck, I'm obviously mentally deficient when it comes to computer operation, so I'm asking you for help. I still can't get El Cortez on the Suns Historical map. I go Downtown, and it won't go west of Fitzgerald's. I also don't see Las Vegas Club, or the Freemont. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
