Jersey Boys Opens At Palazzo

The hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys - a live "Behind the Music" show covering the legendary Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons has opened at the Palazzo Las Vegas.

The early reviews have been quite favorable so far. Richard Abowitz at the LA Times' Movable Buffet gives it a thumbs up as did The Strip Podcast's Steve Friess, who admitted getting choked up at one point.

What usually turns us off from Broadway shows are their very broadwayness - dorky acting, lame story haphazardly strung together based on a slew of hits, sing-along, sappy love songs and the predictable plot conflicts. The few shows that have tried to buck the B-Way musical archetype - Avenue Q and Spamalot - proved to be a bit too esoteric for general public consumption. Jersey Boys seems to buck the trend in a different, yet completely obvious way. Instead of constructing a tenuously connected plot line from lyrical details in the artists canon, Jersey Boys threads the needle by telling the actual story behind them - the true lives of four guys from Jersey who became one of the most successful singing groups ever : The Four Seasons. It's a rags to riches story riddled with the very same complexities and heartbreak that all of us can identify with.
