Harrah's Toots Its Green Horn

Harrah's Entertainment (the folks who own Harrah's, Caesars, Flamingo, Ballys, Paris, Rio, Horseshoe and a bunch more joints) have called in a brass choir to toot their environmentally friendly green horn in honor of Earf Day.

Hooray. While its easy to give Harrah's/Caesars a finger pointing for possibly playing lip service to 'green initiatives' the fact that they : a) noticed that it's Earf Day b) got a press release together c) have actually taken some measures to offset the huge amount of energy used by casinos, is a pretty good thing.

That Harrah's took the time to replace old filament bulbs with CF bulbs, install a steam turbine that generates electricity at - irony alert - Showboat Atlantic City, repurpose kitchen grease to fuel two bio-diesel vehicles AND provide heating to the maintenance shack at Caesars Indiana.

Harrah's also took measures to quell it's biggest energy problem, the constantly emitting hot air from crooner Wayne F. Newton, who hasn't sung a note in Vegas in about six months - an energy savings of upwards of $3.43.

Seriously though, it's great that Harrah's is on the wagon of environmental awareness. If only they were as equally attentive to construction codes and safety standards.

The green "little toot" pic was a nice touch. Hilarious!

They could have harnessed enough hot air from players muttering obscenities while playing their tight slots and unfavorable 6:5 BJ to power the marquee at O'Sheas........
