Atlantic City Hilton Opens On-Premises Gold Exchange Pawn Shop

The rising price of gold coupled with the downturn in the economy has spawned all sorts of 'cash for gold' businesses all over the country. A recent MSNBC report covered a new 'tupperware-style' Gold Party, wherein housewives bring unwanted gold rings, earrings and other accoutrements to a neighbors house where the sell them to a gold broker for cash on the barrelhead - often times less than what they would get to resell the items as is. Here's the video:

Attempting to cash in on this veritable gold rush, the Atlantic City Hilton has temporarily opened Get Cash Gold inside one of their ballrooms. Of course the casino expects the freshly minted customers to blow a chunk of their sales proceeds in one of the many restaurants, or perhaps to try their luck in the casino.

The semi-irony that the Hilton used to be the Atlantic City outpost of the Golden Nugget back when Steve Wynn owned it isn't lost on us.

Comments & Discussion:

I don't know what the difference is between spot gold and what the store pays, but it has to be cheaper than the fees charged for cash advances from credit cards. You have a chance to buy your jewelry back within a certain amount of time, but the advance fees are never recovered.
