Riviera Wins AAA Three Diamond Award

The prestigious Riviera Hotel and Casino announced today that they have won a Three Diamond Rating from AAA. Apparently having a boiler room masquerading as a 'food court' is good enough to join the ranks of 21 other three diamond joints in Vegas, according to the folks who are mostly known for peddling auto-related services. Oh and there's Kady's coffee shop too... which will most likely kill you on a good day, unless you've got a stomach full of hangover, as Spyder and DonnyMac illustrated to me a week or so ago.

So, how the hell do they rate these things? Apparently, we're not the only one who asks judging by the massive Chart of Lodging Criteria posted on the AAA website.

Under the headings Curb Appeal and Signage the requirements are:

Contemporary or classic building structure with noticeable design element enhancements. [Two (or more) signs,] noticeably enhanced detail in design.

I'll buy that one, the Riviera did just upgrade that big whopper of a sign when the gave their B&F show 'Splash' the boot.

There's a ton more of 'requirements' for getting specific ratings, but it seldom goes into detail about 'quality' specifically taste and/or post digestion issues as relates to food, which is our primary complaint about the Riv.
