Tropicana Goes Rambo On Bed Bugs

The front page of the Las Vegas Sun today trumpets the headline "BED ALERT! Tropicana employees on the lookout for bedbugs".

According to the article, a flyer was posted in the housekeeping offices that contained large photos of what bed bugs look like and an offer of $25 (each) for employees who bring em back alive. Bringing em back dead is good enough proof for me, even though the hotel is forty years old.

The hyperbolic headline is sure to get a lot of attention, and may possibly be one of the largest cannonballs aimed at the bow of the USS Columbia-Sussex - owners of the Trop.

The Tropicana denies that it has bedbugs, and says that the bounty program is purely precautionary. So far, no live bed bugs have been submitted for scrutiny, which would make sense since housekeeping isn't looking for them when bed bugs are active - just before dawn.

If the health department or other agencies do find bed bugs during an inspection, the Trop is toast. I doubt very much that many customers would view sleeping with blood sucking bugs as welcome amenity. If you happen to be booked at the Trop and just can't change your reservation, remember that bed bugs usually feed just before dawn. Looks like the Tropicana might put their 'Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval' in jeopardy, baby.

Here's a National Geographic produced video all about the lovely bed bug. Pleasant dreams!

Comments & Discussion:

This 'stopping' of the AFD stories is the greatest AFD prank of them all. Who would expect the final AFD post to come 2 days after AFD??

Well played, VT. Well played.
