Nevada Landing Mostly Demolished
The shuttered Nevada Landing casino in Jean, Nevada - about 40 miles or so out of Vegas on the way to California - is nearly demolished as it makes way for a condo project out in the middle of nowhere.
Unless you drive to Vegas from California, you've probably never seen or visited Nevada Landing. It was always an oddity, seemingly built for those travelers who have overactive bladders or prefer staying in 'way far out of the way' casinos. In its better days, the casino looked like two paddleboats with a hotel (landing) wedged between them. I've always thought the sight of a paddleboat stranded in the middle miles and miles and miles of desert to be surreal in the 'Planet of the Apes/Statue of Liberty' sense.
After months of silence, the wrecking ball has finally hit the paddleboats. I snapped some pix from the car as I flew by on the freeway. Apologies about some of the bug guts splattered on the windshield.

Ok just a thought. You've got a hotel casino in the middle of miles of empty desert.
But you want to build a condo tower. So what stops you from building it on the acres of empty land NEXT to the hotel casino? I just don't get why the demolition was necessary?
