The Review Journal unleashed its locals centric picks for best stuff in Vegas, expanding into areas that our own Trippies don't dare to tread... like 'best bowling alley' and other stuff that 99% of tourists don't give a hoot about. Check the LVRJ's picks.

One note... the 'Best Architecture' award went to the Venetian. Go figure.

Relatedly, the Los Angeles Times' Movable Buffet talks about the LVRJ picks, noting that a lot of Vegas type lists are 'rigged'.

Despite NotIowa.com's humorous sour grapes claim that the Trippies are rigged, they're not. You guys nominate and vote. We just tabulate and post em and watch the hate mail and complaints roll in.

He goes on to say:

The Review-Journal likes to prove that it isn't a hip publication. So, on the media side, while there is space for the categories of best weathercaster and best radio personality in Vegas, the Internet still doesn't exist as a Vegas resource. So, forget about finding a category for the best Vegas-theme website or, for that matter, the best Vegas blog (hint).

Maybe someone needs to hip Mr. Abowitz to the Trippies for some non-rigged, smart tourist approved hipness.

Comments & Discussion:

My favorite is the "Worst Customer Service" award. It went to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
The worst customer service in ANY town is the DMV. It sucks. Horribly.

A few of the picks definitely made me go 'WTF"? Best Coffee/Cappuccino: Starbucks What are there not any good locally owned coffeehouses in the Valley? If not, maybe someone needs to rectify that ASAP. Best Italian: Olive Garden (Heck in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's equivalent, the readers voted for Maggiano's.). I'm surprised that they didn't name McDonald's for Best Hamburger.

I think it's too little, compared to other people on the strip are getting!
