Note To Self: Don't Add Name to Self Exclusion List in Atlantic City

I'm sure we've all felt this at one point or another. After a particularly bad session at the casino, you say to yourself "meh! i'm done with this... gambling sucks!".

The shelf life of a Vegas tripper is approximately 36 hours... anything longer and you're probably tracking down freebies from a coupon book, going to afternoon shows, touring Hoover Dam or you're at the pool and seldomly go to the casino anyways.

While the drive or flight home is usually filled with thoughts of what might have been and the occasional 'I hope the rent check cleared already' worry, most of us relish the joy of being in the game, win or lose.

Not so for Atlantic Ciy Tripper SD, who - after a particularly painful losing session - headed over to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission office and put his name on the voluntary exclusion list, self-banning him for life from Atlantic City Casinos.

Having 'excluders remorse' SD headed back to the NJCCC office an hour later saying essentially 'I take it back.' Unfortunately for him, live has no UNDO function.

What SD didn't know was that other gambling jurisdictions share the same exclusion lists. The myriad promos and comps that SD was accustomed to receiving in the mail were replaced with "Sorry, but due to your being on the self exclusion list, you are not allowed to come here either" letters.

SD was under the impression that he was excluding himself from Atlantic City Casinos, not everywhere. The NJCCC, upon reviewing the case brought by SD to be reinstated, told him 'tough titties,' leaving him on the exclusion list - for the rest of his life

So before you go adding your name to the self exclusion list in a huff next time the casino takes your money, go grab a cup of coffee first, talk it over with your family, seek professional help about gambling addiction, then make the decision.

Comments & Discussion:

What's he so upset about - he really can't find another place to charge him $100 for every free drink?
