Monte Carlo Fire Cost 90M Dollars

Liz Benston in the Las Vegas Sun is reporting that the tally for the Monte Carlo fire in January - in damage to the hotel (which probably includes loss of revenue during the weeks the joint was closed) came out to $90M dollars.

Like a good neighbor, State Farm was there. Or, whomever handles the Monte Carlo's insurance. Allstate. Survival. Geico?

For those keeping score at home, $90million dollars is equal to:

- 3,600,000 hands of $25 blackjack, which would take 41.6 days to play if you played 24/7 and lost every single hand.

- The combined amount of money raised by the two Democratic Presidential Candidates in February.

- Blocking out the next 1,644 years in a Deluxe Room at Monte Carlo, which I just priced at $149.95/nt on their website. 948 years if you upgrade to the Monaco Suite ($249).

- About 25% of what it cost to build the Monte Carlo to begin with.

- Would buy 246 2008 Lamborghini Murcielagos. Loaded.

- Would buy the services of Derek Jeter for four years, plus a scrub to be named later.

- Would buy enough gasoline at current California prices (US $4) to fill 2,500 tanker trucks. Which, if parked end to end on the freeway starting at Mandalay Bay would end at the Gold Strike in Jean, Nevada.
