Someone Teach The New York Times How To Play Craps
The New York Times - by far the best newspaper in the known universe - seems to be in dire need of some tutoring in the game of craps. While discussing the successful swagger of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the Times compares his confidence with that of a dice thrower on a roll.
Mr. Obama is on an electoral roll, polls show him pulling closer in Ohio and Texas, crowds show him the Big Celebrity Love, what’s not to like? A touch of cockiness is discernable in his manner now; he is like a gambler convinced his every dice roll will come up double sixes.
I can hear it now... "Twelve! Craps," as the dealers take the come out pass line bets, pay the C&E'ers or the long shot boxcars lucksters. Obama gets the dice again... "Twelve! Craps," dealers take the pass line bets, pay the C&E'ers... lather rinse repeat.
Maybe "Winner Seven" if we're on the come out, or "Winner Nine" (or whatever the point is) or hard six which won't hurt anyone unless they're "don't" bettors.
Maybe The Times inherently believes that Obama is a long-shot, one roll bet, hardways full, a screaming train of 30:1 boxcars, running wild on its way to the White House. Or, more likely, the writers are more familiar with the mythology, not the facts, of craps. Maybe its time to roll up the gift shop felt, grab a coupla cubes and bank a game in the NYTimes parking garage.

Maybe they were thinking more along the lines of... Monopoly? Or backgammon, maybe.
i like to think that either Slate or the Guardian (UK, but now with an America section, online) would not have made such errors. Bother are finer sources than the Haggard Gray Lady. Then again, so's The Onion, really :)
