MGMMirage Thinks That You Are STRESSED

According to gaming monolith MGMMirage - owners of Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Luxor, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Excalibur, Circus-Circus, Mirage, Treasure Island amongst other casino joints - U.S. gamblers are "stressed."

No, you haven't been snapping at your spouse or children, giving co-workers a tongue lashing or experiencing more vociferous episodes of roadrage, what you have been doing is actually what you haven't been doing - going to Vegas.

Take it away MGMMirage CFO Dan D'Arrigo:

There is a little bit of softness in some of the value properties, the consumer is stressed a little bit.

According to D'Arrigo (a nice Italian boy from the neighborhood) the lower end properties - Circus Circus and Excalibur are feeling a large chunk of the recession pinch, but other properties will probably experience a lower average rack rate throughout 2008.

What does this mean to you? Well it means that if you've got the bread to blow on a Vegas trip, you should expect room rates in general to be a bit lower than they have the last few years.

Can I get an amen people?

As if like clockwork, our friends at MGMMirage have sent us a slew of excellent package deals that extend all the way through the end of summer. I'd say, judging from the looks of these, they're scared stiff that - unless you are Canadian - there's a good chance that you might skip your spring/summer Vegas jaunts.

Comments & Discussion:

With our dollar at par, you bet I'll be down in Vegas this Spring, eh! If there are any other Vancouverites on this board, I highly recommend flying Allegiant out of Bellingham, WA. It is half the price of flights of direct flights from YVR, has three(!) flights daily to Vegas (and Reno) and no stupid 7 am Vegas departure flights like on Air Canada.

First they realized that there aren't enough socialites to buy a $2 million condo in the middle of the desert, and now they finally figure out that there aren't enough OC trust fund babies out there to fill in the over-saturated market of $400 midweek hotel rooms?

Thank God it happened sooner then later!

hopefully those old skool vegas prices will come back!!
