What To Do If Your Hotel Catches Fire
The Los Angeles Times has posted a list of things that you should do if you happen to be inside a hotel when it catches fire.
When I was at Crown Macau in September, I got back to my room after a late night out taking photos to find the hallway smelling like smoke. Not cigarette smoke, but burning paper smoke. The hallway itself was a little smoky, but not overpowering. When I arrived at my door (almost the end of the hall) I did the "touch the door" thing, opened the door slowly and headed inside to call the front desk. The receptionist told me that someone would be upstairs shortly to check it out. I went back out into the elevator vestibule and waited for them for about 20 minutes... no one came. I headed back to my room, checking the hallway every 5 minutes to see if anyone was around for about an hour until the smoke smell dissipated, then forgot about it and went to bed. The hotel didn't burn down.
