Featurette: Revel Atlantic City Renderings

Revel Entertainment has published architectural renderings for a $2B Atlantic City resort which will be called, simply, Revel. Revel, scheduled to open in late 2010, is the first casino resort to be built on Atlantic City's boardwalk since the Trump Turd Taj Mahal in 1990. Let's take a look, shall we?

Revel Atlantic City Architectural Renderings - Plot

Revel is located at the north-eastern end of the boardwalk, adjacent to the Harrah's-owned Showboat. Trump Taj Mahal, anchor of Trump Entertainment's tarnished gaming empire, is two blocks away. Resorts International, owned by Colony Capital (Las Vegas Hilton) is a block or two beyond that. I did a five minute half-assed sketch of the Showboat's outline for perspective purposes only. The more I look at it though, the Showboat is a bit too tall, Revel's towers will be 710 feet high.

Revel was designed by Arquitectonica, the firm responsible for the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. When Revel's two construction phases are complete, Revel will feature two sloping towers, each bisected by Luxor-inspired shafts of light shooting skyward. The lower level buildings' curved shapes are supposed to replicate rolling waves washing onto the shore (see also: MGM Grand Macau).

Notice the rooftop pools and public areas. Why nobody has done this before in Atlantic City is truly baffling. Granted, during winter nobody will be out there, but during spring, summer and fall months, hanging out on the rooftop or taking a dip in the pool during the day or evening will be truly wonderful.

Revel will be constructed in two phases. Phase I will include Tower I (left - 1,800 rooms) the casino, shopping, restaurant and theater podium. Phase II will primarily be further expansion of some of those areas and the addition of the second hotel tower, bringing the total number of rooms to 3,800.

Revel Atlantic City Architectural Renderings - Rear View

This is the view from the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Pacific. Note the above-ground parking garage, building underground parking structures isn't possible so close to the beach.

Revel as viewed from Pacific Avenue heading north east. If only AC looked as nice in person as it does in the renderings.

Note the Gehry-esque brushed metal horizontal shingles with recessed lighting in their crooks. Wow. That's the parking garage on the right, and the beach is just past the connector bridge.

Comments & Discussion:

I can't wait to see the Revel Casino when completed - it is absolutely breath taking - the design is unique and welcoming - so nice it almost looks out of place in Atlantic City. Maybe they can clean up the city a little bit - get the trash and drugs out of there. PeggyM

I just returned from AC and was watching Revel being built. I feel they are going to have a major problem with the roof top pools and public areas from the vast amount of sea birds. Just go down one casino to the Taj and see what is being left everyday on their deck. I hope they don't propose to kill all of the sea birds to keep their property clean.

Hello, we are VERY excited about Revel coming to A.C., we had become timeshare owners of a property nearby in 1999, and they kept telling us, be patient , the area is getting better, and it has !! We have seen the new condos in the north end areain the last 4 or 5 years have "spruced- up" that end of the city, and we were just down in August and noticed the construction going on near Showboat , this will be a really "boost" for the north end of the boardwalk, we can't wait !!!
