Hard Rock casino pays Nevada $100G fine
LAS VEGAS -- The Hard Rock hotel-casino paid a $100,000 fine Thursday to the Nevada Gaming Commission to settle a complaint over a provocative advertising campaign that state gambling regulators deemed offensive.
The Hard Rock admitted no wrongdoing after months of debate about First Amendment freedoms and whether regulators could enforce standards of advertising "decency, dignity, good taste, honesty and inoffensiveness."
Commission Chairman Peter Bernhard said settling the complaint represented an acknowledgment that hotel officials were not "candid and clear" during an investigation of the ads last year.
