Oooops: Political Intrigue Surrounds Harrahs and Rio Remodeling Debacle

The hot water that currently surrounds two hotel remodeling projects in Las Vegas seems to be bubbling up to a slow boil outside of the Clark County Managers offices in Las Vegas. At the center of the stew is Harrah's Entertainment's decision to forego getting proper permits to do renovations to their Rio and Harrah's Las Vegas properties. Rooms at both joints have been taken offline as County inspectors comb through the upgrades installed by Harrah's contractors over the last year.

Now word is leaking out that Clark County may have actually been in on the corner cutting moves, lending a blind eye to Harrah's projects. At question is personal relationships between Clark County Manager Virginia Valentine and her former boss, ex-Mayor of Las Vegas and now Harrah's PR mouthpiece Jan Jones.

Currently, 140 rooms in Rio's Ipanema tower and all 537 rooms at Harrah's Las Vegas are closed until further notice.
