Steve Wynn Breaks Silence on Atlantic City, Lays Smackdown on Pinnacle CEO

Steve Wynn has finally broken is silence about his plans for an Atlantic City casino [ map of AC Casinos ]. In an interview with Donald Wittkowski of the Press of Atlantic City, Wynn said "If I have a site at Bader Field, I'll Build Wynn Atlantic City."

Casino development at Atlantic City's recently closed airport Bader Field has been a hotly discussed topic in the past few months with many analysts weighing in on the odds of Wynn Atlantic City touching down at the harbor front property. The 140 acre site is currently in limbo with a potential sale or auction in the offing. Casino industry competitor Pinnacle Entertainment - owners of the recently closed Sands AC - have said outright that if Wynn builds on Bader Field, Pinnacle will pull the plug on the Sands AC project and leave town.

While we admire Pinnacle CEO Dan Lee's balls in making such a bold statement, it proves that he's more foolish than mature. Mr. Lee is mistaken to believe that Pinnacle Entertainment has the cache that Wynn Resorts has. If Pinnacle leaves, another casino operator will surely purchase the Sands AC plot and build anew. In response to Lee's comments, Wynn Resorts levied this corporate spanking to the Pinnacle boss: "if Pinnacle Enterainment is afraid of competition [we] would be willing to buy their Boardwalk site at their cost and they can then leave and try to control competition somewhere else."

So here's to hoping that Wynn procures Bader Field, Dan Lee packs up his toys and goes home and Wynn Resorts builds not one, but TWO killer resorts in Atlantic City.
