Sayonara LuXor (sort of)!
LuXor has made an official announcement that the Egyptian theme is being dumped and a major renovation of the public spaces and Pyramid Rooms is imminent. Not that this is a surprise - we've all notices mummies and heiroglyphs slowly vanishing from LuXoR along with Egyptian theme clubs and restaurants - but it is at least official. The Pyramid Rooms were long in the tooth 10 years ago... they've been ripe for redecoration since the turn of the century.
No smarter words have ever been spoken by a casino executive:
"We're not a British museum with ancient artifacts, we're a casino-resort. This was a brilliantly conceived building from the outside. The pyramid always created a sense of wow and wonder, but the inside never delivered on that promise." - Luxor President and COO Felix Rappaport said. "
LuXor will be transforming its main atrium from family friendly to... uh... not family friendly in the same vein as MGM Mirage's transformation of Treasure Island five years ago.
Our friend Dr. David Schwartz had this to say:
"It's a lot less treasure and more island. It's the way the city is going. It's much less about these cartoonish-themed properties and more about attracting a younger, hip audience." - Dr. David Schwartz, Director UNLV Center for Gaming Research.
Hooray!
