Update: Monorail STILL Closed

There's still no firm date on when the Las Vegas monorail will open again. The 650 million dollar monorail has been closed since September eighth after a metal part fell from under a moving train.

Monorail spokesman Todd Walker says any reopening target date is purely speculative. According to Ron Lynn of the Clark County Department of Development Services Building Division, the company that operates and built the system believes stresses appeared in unexpected ways on train drive shafts.

That caused vibrations and the shedding of parts. But the company, Bombardier, has yet to prove its case. Given the monorail's inauspicious beginning, Bombardier has lost the benefit of the doubt among local authorities.
