John Edwards - Shadow Casino Boss?

Gaming Today has an interesting little smear article that connects former Vice Presidential and current Presidential candidate John Edwards to the Penn National Gaming buyout we reported on a few weeks ago.

Penn National has accepted an $8.9 billion dollar purchase offer from Fortress Investment Group and Centerbridge Partners. John Edwards joined Fortress Investment Group in 2005 as a consultant and cleared about $500k last year in that capacity. He also has investment holdings in Fortress that total about $25 million dollars.

In essence, John Edwards, presidential candidate, is - by investment - a part owner of Penn National Gaming and part boss of their fleet of riverboat joints and racetrack casinos that dot the landscape of the U.S..

VegasTripping is not ready to make any Presidential endorsements quite yet, but the possibility of having a casino boss in the White House moves Edwards from long shot to the middle of the pack in our eyes.

Low math scores and child obesity? Pshaw... make craps a Physical Education requirement! War in Iraq? How about a No Limit Hold Em tournament to solve all that stuff. Healthcare? Free oxygen tank refills for all seniors with a Players Club card at your local riverboat casino! Toxic waste? Sentence casino cheats to labor at a Superfund site! Energy crunch? Attach a wind farm to the front of Wayne Newton's head to catch all the yawning exhalations of Wayniacs the world over! Its time to liven things up around here!
