The New Rage: 1/2 Penny Slots

Cheapskate gamblers now have further methods for stretching their gambling dollar - Half Penny Slots!

Mohegan Sun tribal casino in Connecticut has installed 38 "1/2 penny" slot machines on their casino floor to great success. In two months these little gadgets have taken in over $2.9 million dollars - thats 580 million 1/2 cents, for those keeping track at home.

For even more statistical wonderment, these little buggers keep 14.5% of the coin-in. Competitor casino Foxwoods' VP of Slot Machines Alex (A-Rod?) Rodriguez calls these machines "way way to tight. The players just don't win anything. In reality, it's not not giving you the same odds as a penny game. It's just ludicrous to me." Wow... the VP of Slots for a major casino says they're too tight... maybe we should listen?

Some more numbers about "1/2 cent Slots":

  • Max Bet: $2.25 (450 credits)
  • One gambler said a $20 bill (4,000 credits) lasts about 'three hours'
  • If you're stuck with 1 credit, the 1/2 cent stays in the machine until you double it or lose it.

Comments & Discussion:

Wow a new option for the truly degenerate gambler. I wouldn't be surprised if half-cent machines end up in Vegas within 2 years.

Seen them. Haven't yet played. Also, one should take the words of a competitor with a grain of salt. If I get a chance, I'll report on a field test.
