Hello Circus-Circus Center!

Circus-Circus parent company MGMMirage has gone out and purchased two chunks of land on the north end of the strip that surround the Big Top. Which land might that be? The first is big pile of dirt across the Strip from Sahara (site of the original El Rancho.) The second is the plot that was under prep to become the Maxim Magazine themed disaster - *ahem* - casino. The price tag for this shopping spree? $575 million bucks.

This is an interesting development for the northern end of the Strip. MGM Mirage will now have about 100 acres of land to potentially build another monolithic project a la Project City Center. MGM Mirage Cheeef Financial Ocifer Jim Murren said that Circus-Circus will become the anchor point for a new major development (Project Circus-Circus-Center?) on the rest of the land.

Yep, thats right folks... for the time being (possibly 2015?) Circus-Circus ain't goin nowhere... in fact MGM Mirage is going to "do with Circus Circus what we've done with the rest of our properties." Which means, incremental upgrades for 2-5 years until the place looks like more of a Frankenstein than it did previously. Along with a slew of new paint, carpet, signs and food options, MGM Mirage will most definitely slather on a coat of 6:5 blackjack, tight slots, jack up the room rates and add yet another Cirque du Soleil show (possible name: Cirque du Soleil-Cirque du Soleil). Work on Circus-Circus Center could begin in the next few year as City Center enters its final stages.

How is this going to affect the rest of the north strip properties? Hrmmm.
